Although there is not much of an evidence, historians are of opinion that Christopher Columbus, the notable explorer, sighted this island on the 13th day of December 1498. The day was St. Lucy's Day and hence the name "Saint Lucia" was given to this island. However, not much evidence can be figured out regarding this discovery.
